3 D spectral synthesis and rotational line broadening ( Research Note )
نویسنده
چکیده
Context. Spectral synthesis calculations based on three-dimensional stellar atmosphere models are limited by the affordable angular resolution of the radiation field. This hampers an accurate treatment of rotational line broadening. Aims. We aim to find a treatment of rotational broadening of a spherical star when the radiation field is only available at a modest number of limb-angles. Methods. We apply a combination of analytical considerations of the line-broadening process and numerical tests. Results. We obtain a method which is closely related to classical flux convolution and which performs noticeably better than a previously suggested procedure. It can be applied to rigid as well as differential rotation.

The IACOB project III. New observational clues to understand macroturbulent broadening in massive O- and B-type stars
Context. The term ’macroturbulence’ of Oand B-type stars is commonly used to refer to a source of non-rotational broadening affecting their spectral line-profiles. It has been proposed to be a spectroscopic signature of the presence of stellar oscillations; however, we still lack a definitive confirmation of this hypothesis. Aims. We aim to provide new empirical clues about macroturbulent spect...

متن کاملRotational Broadening of Atomic Spectral Features from Neutron Stars
The discovery of the first gravitationally redshifted spectral line from a neutron star (NS) by Cottam, Paerels and Mendez has triggered theoretical studies of the physics of atomic line formation in NS atmospheres. Chang, Bildsten and Wasserman showed that the hydrogenic Fe Hα line formed above the photosphere of a bursting NS is intrinsically broad. We now include rotational broadening within...
متن کاملFormaldehyde around 3.5 and 5.7-μm: measurement and calculation of broadening coefficients
Selfand N2-broadening coefficients of H2CO have been retrieved in both the 3.5 and 5.7-μm spectral regions. These coefficients have been measured in FT spectra for transitions with various J (from 0 to 25) and K values (from 0 to 10), showing a clear dependence with both rotational quantum numbers J and K. First, an empirical model is presented to reproduce the rotational dependence of the meas...
